Tips to keep going

Learning new habits takes time. Think back to when you learned to ride a bike. No-one expected you to do it first time. You no doubt fell off a lot and needed picking up, with help along the way. Step by step you took control of that bike and learned how to keep it on course. Just like you will with your weight.

But we all know that life is never straightforward so there will be times when negative ‘self- talk’ creeps in to drag you back into old ways. Here’s some ways keep you going:

  • Value what you’ve achieved so far, rather than only focus on what you plan to do.
  • Look back at your ‘pros’ list about losing weight and refer to it, often
  • Don’t expect to change too much, too quickly. Take things a step at a time.
  • Remember to enjoy a non-food reward for achieving your goals.
  • Use recipe books and meal ideas to keep things interesting.
  • No foods are forbidden when you are losing weight, and ups and downs are a normal part of change. If you have a bad day, forgive, forget and get back on track.
  • Talk to your supporters and get plenty of encouragement. This is really vital!
