Training Consultant
Karan has more than 20 years experience in public health practice and physical activity promotion at local, regional and national levels. As an exercise physiologist her specialist areas are physical activity, obesity management and diabetes.
Graduating from Loughborough University, her early career saw her teaching physical education in a large Community College before joining health promotion as a physical activity specialist. She has since been involved in many National Health Promotion campaigns e.g. Helping People Change, Walking The Way to Health and the Active for Life Campaign. She regularly supports Primary Care Trusts at a strategic level in the development of food health and obesity strategies.
Karan has a specific interest in supporting behaviour change and co delivers the British Dietetic Association accredited three-day skills based training course ‘Counselling Skills for Dietitians’ and facilitates obesity management training for public health professionals. She is an Honorary Fellow at Manchester University School of Epidemiology and Population Health following her work to support the development of their web based Masters degree in Population Health Evidence. |
